A few weeks ago I set up a free consumer Google Voice number. Since then, I’ve been using it. I’ve texted a few people, received some texts from other people, received some incoming calls, and made some outgoing calls.
However, sometimes I receive calls which go straight to voicemail without my phone even ringing. I spent an hour trying to figure out what was going on by testing with friends and family. In the end, I determined that calls from ordinary phone numbers come through to me, but calls from other Google Voice numbers do not necessarily come through. I’m not sure if this is an intentional feature of Google Voice or a bug, but in either case it at least explains what was happening to me.
